NFR.01 – Sudan is a pink-and-white pinstripe cotton shirt created as an expression of African solidarity. Four joined arms hold a connected map of Africa on the front, while the back carries Sudan’s coordinates, humanitarian figures and a call for the country not to be forgotten. Cut with a relaxed, slightly oversized fit and a structured boxy shape.

Made to be worn. Created to keep Sudan visible.

story

Some garments begin with a colour, a fabric or a silhouette.

NFR.01 – Sudan began with a question: what does African solidarity look like when distance makes silence easy?

The piece was created in response to the war in Sudan and the danger of allowing human suffering to become another passing headline. Rather than reproducing images of violence, the design uses symbolism, typography and clothing to carry the story with dignity.

At the centre of the front emblem is an Africa drawn through continuous, connected lines. It represents a continent whose nations, cultures and people remain linked beyond borders. Around it, four joined arms form a single structure—an expression of support, shared responsibility and the belief that when one part of Africa is hurting, none of us are truly separate.

Beside the emblem are the words:

AFRYK AESTHETICS — NOT FOR RESALE.

The phrase does not refer to the garment itself. It is a refusal to treat African identity, culture, dignity or suffering as something that can be packaged and exploited. The shirt can be purchased. The people and stories it carries cannot.

The back speaks more directly. Humanitarian figures, Sudan’s geographical coordinates, FASHION IS ACTIVISM and #FREESUDAN turn the garment into a record of remembrance and resistance.

The soft pink-and-white pinstripe makes the shirt familiar and wearable. The red artwork interrupts that softness with urgency. Together, they reflect the purpose of the piece: to bring an uncomfortable truth into everyday spaces without turning suffering into spectacle.

NFR.01 – Sudan is a reminder that fashion can do more than decorate the body. It can preserve memory, start conversations and refuse silence.

When one part of Africa is hurting, none of us are separate.
